Get webhook alerts for messages from people outside your campaigns
Webhooks can now notify your other tools about messages that arrive outside your campaigns.
Previously, webhook reply alerts only covered people who were already part of a campaign. Messages from everyone else in your inbox were not sent to your connected tools.
There is now a new webhook event:
Message received (outside campaigns)
What it includes
This event covers messages from:
- People who message you directly and have never been added to Botdog
- Contacts you imported or added to a list but never added to a campaign
- People who are in a campaign but have not yet received a campaign message
Your own outgoing messages are never included.
No duplicate alerts
Replies from people your campaigns have already messaged will continue to use the existing campaign webhook events.
The new event deliberately excludes those replies, so you can use both webhook types together without receiving the same message twice.
Each alert includes:
- Who sent the message
- A link to their LinkedIn profile
- The message itself
- The conversation it belongs to
For people outside your campaigns, details such as email address, phone number, and company may not be available, so they are not included.
How to enable it
Go to:
Settings > Integrations > Webhooks
When adding a webhook, you will now see Connected account in the Scope dropdown.
Choose it to access the new Message received (outside campaigns) event.
Scope now appears first in the form because it determines what the webhook will cover.
Campaign scopes continue to send campaign activity. Connected account is for inbox messages that are not part of campaign activity.
If you want both, create two webhooks. They can both send to the same destination.
Good to know
This event covers everything that reaches your inbox outside campaigns, including genuine enquiries, recruiter messages, newsletters, and group chats.
That may create significantly more webhook activity than your campaign alerts, so make sure the tool receiving them can handle the volume and filter anything you do not need.
Your existing webhooks are unchanged and will continue working exactly as before.
