Stopping a contact through the API now really stops it

We fixed two API issues that could allow a contact to receive a message even after you had taken steps to prevent it.

Stopping a contact now stops the full sequence

Previously, stopping a contact through the API only worked if their sequence had not started yet.

If the sequence was already running, Botdog could accept the stop request and mark the contact as stopped, while the remaining sequence continued in the background. This meant a message already waiting behind a delay could still be sent hours or days later.

Now, stopping a contact through the API cancels the entire sequence at any point, including messages that are already waiting to send.

You can now confirm that the stop is complete

The contact record now includes a stoppedAt time.

This is added only after the sequence has actually been stopped. If stoppedAt is present, no further campaign messages can be sent to that contact.

Previously, the success response only confirmed that Botdog had received the stop request, not that the sequence had actually stopped.

If a stop cannot be completed, the API will now return an error instead of reporting success. Nothing will be changed, so you can safely try again.

API blacklists now work correctly

We also fixed an issue where profiles added to a blacklist through the API were saved without actually being treated as blacklisted.

As a result, they did not appear under Settings > Blacklist and were not blocked from entering campaigns.

Profiles added through the API from now on will be saved and treated as blacklisted correctly.

Good to know

Profiles added before this fix are still stored in the old format.

To correct one, remove it from the blacklist and add it again. Simply adding the same profile again without removing it first will not update it.

The blacklist is currently checked when a contact first enters a campaign. Adding someone to the blacklist will therefore not stop a campaign that is already running for them.

To stop an active campaign for that contact, use the stop or delete contact option. We are also working on applying blacklist checks throughout the full campaign sequence.

This update only affects customers using the API.

Stopping or deleting contacts directly inside Botdog was not affected.
